(RTTNews) - Avalyn Pharma Inc. (AVLN), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on inhaled therapies for respiratory diseases, presented new data at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) International Congress 2026, held between September 5 and 9 in Barcelona, Spain.

The data included in-silico modeling of AP01 lung distribution and a patient survey examining perspectives on participation in clinical studies for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive form of interstitial lung disease characterized by scarring of lung tissue and declining lung function. Avalyn is developing AP01 for progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF), a broader group of fibrotic lung diseases that includes IPF.

AP01 is an investigational, inhaled formulation of pirfenidone, an anti-fibrotic drug, administered through Avalyn's eFlow nebulizer system. The formulation is designed to deliver pirfenidone directly to the lungs while reducing systemic exposure compared to oral administration.

The in-silico analysis used the validated Ebenbuild Twinhale modeling platform with three-dimensional lung models from high-resolution CT scans of healthy, mild IPF and severe IPF lungs.

According to Avalyn, the simulations showed broad AP01 aerosol distribution across the lungs, including severely fibrotic lungs. Alveolar and thoracic tissues accounted for most of the deposited aerosol mass across all models, indicating predicted delivery to regions associated with fibrotic remodelling.

Additionally, video simulations using tidal breathing also showed particle deposition throughout the lungs.

Separately, Avalyn presented findings from a quantitative and qualitative survey of people with IPF examining factors influencing participation in clinical research.

Respondents showed strong willingness to participate, including travelling long distances and taking part in extended placebo-controlled studies.

The survey also identified clear communication of study goals, potential benefits and risks, recognition of patients' prior experiences, and reduced logistical barriers as factors that may support participation in future clinical studies.

AP01 is currently being evaluated in the Phase 2b MIST trial, which has completed target enrollment of 375 patients with PPF. Topline 12-month results are expected in the second half of 2027.

Avalyn shares have traded between $24.15 and $40.17 over the last year.

AVLN closed Tuesday's trade at $37.62, up 0.62%.
