Messi has been called up to the Argentine national team for his farewell match

Eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi has been called up to the Argentine national team for his farewell match with the national squad. This was announced by the press office of the Argentine Football Association.

During a series of fall friendly matches, the Argentine national team will face Bolivia on September 30, Burkina Faso on October 3, and Benin on October 6. Messi will join the team before the final match of the series.

“We have invited the world’s best player, our captain Lionel Messi, to play here in Argentina on October 6 and give him the send-off he deserves,” said Claudio Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Association.

On August 31, the 39-year-old forward announced the end of his international career. Over the course of his career, Messi scored a record 125 goals in 207 matches. As a member of the national team, the forward won the World Cup (2022), took gold at the Olympic Games (2008), and won the Copa América twice (in 2021 and 2024).
