Robinhood has made its first corporate Bitcoin purchase, adding $25 million worth of BTC to its balance sheet as the company expands its involvement in the crypto market.
The purchase was disclosed by Johann Kerbrat, Robinhoodâs crypto chief, during an interview at the Digital Asset Summit Asia. Unlike the crypto assets held for customers, the Bitcoin bought in this transaction belongs to Robinhood itself.
Robinhood Calls Bitcoin Purchase a First Step
Kerbrat said the purchase is intended to show Robinhoodâs commitment to Bitcoin and the wider crypto ecosystem rather than launch a large-scale Bitcoin treasury strategy.
âBeing able to add this $25 million worth of Bitcoin is really showing how committed we are to the space,â Kerbrat said.
He added that the Bitcoin will remain on Robinhoodâs balance sheet for now. The company has not announced a specific Bitcoin target or plans for regular purchases.
The $25 million allocation is relatively small compared with Robinhoodâs roughly $100 billion market value. However, it marks a change from the company only facilitating crypto activity for customers to also holding Bitcoin as a corporate asset.
Bitcoin Purchase Adds to Robinhoodâs Crypto Expansion
The corporate Bitcoin purchase comes as Robinhood continues to broaden its crypto business.
The company is also working on Robinhood Chain and preparing perpetual futures for eligible U.S. users, adding to its existing range of crypto trading products.
Kerbrat said the company could potentially use the Bitcoin it holds for other purposes in the future, but did not provide details or a timeline.
For now, Robinhood has not disclosed the exact amount of Bitcoin purchased. Based on the reported $25 million allocation and Bitcoin prices around the time of the purchase, the holding could be roughly 294 BTC, but this is only an estimate and is not a confirmed Robinhood figure.
Robinhoodâs Bitcoin Move Differs From a Treasury Strategy
The purchase also differs from companies that have made Bitcoin accumulation a central part of their corporate treasury strategy.
Robinhood has not announced plans to make Bitcoin a major part of its reserves or set a long-term accumulation target. Instead, the company has described the $25 million purchase as an initial step while continuing to build its broader crypto business.
The move therefore gives Robinhood direct corporate exposure to Bitcoin without indicating that the company is shifting its balance sheet toward a dedicated Bitcoin treasury model.
